Mindful Mornings: A Practice That Became My Peace
About a year ago, I started something without fully realizing how much it would mean to me. I wasn’t chasing productivity or trying to check another habit off a never-ending list. I was just searching for something—something steady, something grounding.
I began waking up early, often before the sun rose, making a cup of hot tea, and settling into the quiet. No emails, no notifications, no demands, no rushing—just stillness. There was something about those moments before the world woke up that felt sacred.
Each morning, I would read my devotion, listen to the sounds of nature or soothing melodies, journal and pray. It wasn’t about perfection or routine for the sake of routine. It was about taking care of me before taking care of anyone else.
At the time, I didn’t know that these moments would become my peace in the midst of everything I would soon be going through. But they did.
Mindful mornings taught me that peace isn’t something we wait for—it’s something we create. And for me, waking up early and making space for myself became my norm.
A way to reclaim my time, my peace, my energy, reflect things that I am grateful for and focus on joys that I may have overlooked. These moments became a refuge, a space where I could exist without expectation. A place where I can just sit in the presence of God and be mindful.
Your mindful mornings doesn’t have to look like mine but here is an example.
☕ Starting with my tea – A small act of warmth and comfort. My go to was Dandelion Root Tea – Supports liver function and digestion. Just to start the day with everything moving the way it needs to.
📖 Reading a daily devotion or something motivational – A reminder to anchor my day in something meaningful. Whatever you expose your mind to early in the day deeply influences your thoughts, emotions, and actions.
🌿 Listening to nature or calming tunes – Tuning in to something peaceful before the noise of the day. Soft, melodic music can lower cortisol (the stress hormone), helping you start the day more relaxed and balanced. Nature sounds (like birds chirping, waves, or rustling leaves) have been shown to reduce anxiety and promote a sense of well-being.
📝 Journaling – A release, a reflection, and a way to process my emotions. Your mind is most open and unfiltered in the morning. Journaling helps release thoughts, worries, or anxieties before the day begins.
Your mindful morning might look different. It might include stretching, meditation, deep breathing, exercising or simply sitting in silence. There’s no right or wrong way—only what feels right for you.
Whatever it is, make it yours. And most importantly, make it about you.
Mindful Mornings as a Form of Self-Care
We often think of self-care as something we do when we’ve reached burnout, when stress has taken over, or when we finally “earn” a break. But real self-care isn’t reactive—it needs to be proactive. It’s about consistently creating space for yourself so that you don’t reach the point of exhaustion.
Since starting my mindful mornings, I’ve noticed a shift. I’m more present, more grounded, and less reactive to the demands of the day. I no longer wake up feeling like I’m already behind. Instead, I begin the day with clarity and intention.
Creating Your Own Mindful Morning
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, drained, or like you’re constantly running on empty, I encourage you to create your own version of a mindful morning.
Start small
As you go about your day, you’ll notice a difference. A little more ease. A little more clarity. And most importantly, a little more of you in your own life.
Have you ever created a morning routine that brings you peace? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
